I thought I'd tell you about my mum.
She has been overweight since being a child. She's now 5'3' and weighs 23 stone.
She admits to using food to compensate for a tough family life. When she was young her mum would cheer her up with treats of food.
But at school the 'treats' caught up with her and she struggled with games and sports which she hated.
In her mid-teens, she wore size 20 clothes, but managed to get down to a size 16 as she wanted a boyfriend like all the other girls.
But it was always a struggle, at her heaviest she was 26 stone. In the early years of her marriage, she put on four to five stone because she was so unhappy and wondered if she'd done the right thing.
She's been on a low-carb diet for the past two years now and lost three stone so far.
One of the reasons for this was another health concern - she was diagnosed with diabetes three years ago.
She has started walking twice a week and is planning to increase this in the summer.
The story of an ordinary woman struggling with her weight. |
